Digital projector advice

Postby kiwi » Sun Oct 26, 2008 5:23 pm

I am contemplating a projector setup for my new attic. I have absolutely no experience with projectors and would appreciate any advice from fellow members about this.

Any good websites with info....problems and things to look out for...comparisons with LCD and or Plasma

Ive not done an indepth search yet but I do have a look now and then and for a half decent full HD proj, your talking about £2k. Depends on your budget, how much zoom/lens shift you need and image quality preferences.

Today you can choose from LCD, DLP, D-ILA and SXRD based projectors.
You really need to check out each live to see which you prefer.

Here's a nice and professional online shop to see price levels :

The Sony VPL-HW10 SXRD seems to be a nice entry level full hd projector at about 2000€.

You can get away with a "cheaper" PJ if you have a really good screen. They can do alot for the blacks.

Sanyo is good if you need to put it in an awkward position and neeef lens shift and zoom.

If you suffer from seeing 'rainbow effect' on DLP projectors, take a look at the Mitsubishi projectors - LCD based so no RBE issues, they're so silent you're not even sure if they're switched on most of the time, and have one of the sharpest pictures i've seen from a home cinema projector - so sharp you have to re-watch the first few films you watch on them because you can't concentrate until you get used to it! Black levels are extremely good, with a decent bulb life and warranty period. They tick all the right boxes for me, and i'm glad i didn't go for DLP just yet.
