So even though they are releasing a "book-type" blu-ray, they are doing a giftset-style too ? COOL!

Now that is a must have.Hey guys? I was saving money for some things I need and I don't know when I will be able to go to hidef, since I need new equipment, so I am off from the industry for a little more than a year, I have a question. These BD..are region coded as DVD? BD players can they be "broke"  as all region? Any chance of region 2 in case this is regon 1?

To tell you the truth I didn't think of hidef anytime soon until I heard BD won the format war...and saw a Phillips BD/DVD player at 529 euros at a shop (and since I got the DVD963 SA model from same brand for many years now region free hehe) and i got drulled to buy it...Don't remember model shop guy told me is new...all gold in the rear (component, hdmi etc).So I thought..what if that BD player is as good as the 963 was as a DVD...

Yes, Blu-Ray movies "can" be region-code.  It will depend on the studio company releasing the movie to decide if it should be region-code or not.  For example, Warner Brother movies are region-free right now on all Blu-Ray players.  They might decide to restrict it by putting region-code to their movies down the road...it's an option to the studio company.

Can the player be region-free like some DVD players today?  Of course...it's just a matter of time that it can be broken.

Remember that high def region code is different now vs. today's DVD.  They broke it up into A, B, C category.  I believe Europe is region B while US/Asia is region A.
