Because of the sticker on the OST CD, which should have a unique code, this set is actually "numbered".

Yep, it has a slipcase. I would never recommend listening to my opinion when choosing which, films to watch! But since you ask, I'll leave a short comment:
I enjoyed it very much and think it's a very good festival film. By that I mean it's perfect to watch in between more "demanding" films, if you make it the one (filmic) event of the day you're probably going to be a bit disappointed, after all it's not a (purely) entertaining film and it's not really an art film either (it's only "message"/theme seems to be that film is a form of human communication). It basically engages you while watching, but doesn't leave much to think/talk about afterwards. I really like these kind of films and - surprisingly - I'm still not fed up with independent films about making films, therefore, as I said, I really enjoyed the experience and if I get the chance to see it on the big screen I definitely would watch it again, but it will be quite some time before I'll play the DVD again. Though I don't fully agree with him, you can read Tom's review here. (I don't think one could "spoil" such a film, but he mentions pretty much the whole "plot" (except the tiny bit, that leads to the cover image), so if you prefer not to know anything about the film you're going to see, don't read it.)

This one was a gift from Morty. :notworthy: Since I don't celebrate christmas in any way, this will most likely be my only gift. ;)
I actually had a chance to see a similar selection of (I)WFFIS award winning shorts last year and afterwards I thought I'd never get another chance to see the ones I missed, so you can imagine how happy I was, when I got this DVD-Set. :oohyeah:
I already told Morty, but I'll say it again: the fact that (~9 month after it was released) this Collection was picked up by seoulselection (and now yesasia) gives me some hope, that in 2009 we can find at least some of the independent Korean Film DVDs at e-tailers that ship international. It would be really great to get some decently priced DVDs released by "The Association of Independent Film & Video", "MediAct", "Korean Film Council", "Gyeongi Film Commission" or any other publisher that deals with these (short)films, which never get a (major) cinematic release. But I probably shouldn't hope for too much, after all I was hoping to get "Hanyo, the Housemaid" and "The Good, The Bad & The Weird" this year, and that didn't even work out.
Enough of that - Morty, thank you soooooo much! :notworthy:  :drink:

Once again it was too expensive for me, but I made a deal with Morty so he gets to keep the DVD after I've watched it. It's already on the way to him, so you'll probably find it in his thread soon. :)

Jab, I think you succeeded with Princess Aurora! Thanks for the pics! The edition looks amazing, now looking forward to buy it sometime soon  ;)

House of Flying Daggers is a great edition, the wooden box itself is one of the finest I've seen  Along with this one I have a Korean LE and a BD, now only HK LE box is left

Gojko Mitic is very well known in Russia, he was extremely popular here some time ago  :D

jab, I really like your pictures of the nice Princess Aurora Limited Edition - you absolutely don't have to feel sorry.  ;)

It's also nice to see some pictures of Pong. I think I will do one or two pictures of it and for the rest I will paste a link of the other pictures here in this thread. Thanks again for the great DVD!!

@Morty: I still haven't answered your PM. Will do that later today. *promise*

Giggles wrote:Gojko Mitic is very well known in Russia, he was extremely popular here some time ago  :D

Yes, he was a proper Superstar - being known only by first name like Gojko is usually a good indication for that. :D He was/is extremely popular in (East) Germany as well, but not so much in my generation, more the one of my parents. ;) From what I've heard/read his stardom must have been even greater in Eastern Europe.
I got to see him perform live a couple of times, which was funny, because it was the first time to hear his own voice, while in character. Even though he never had many lines in these films, he has always been dubbed by somebody else and that voice has really become a point of identification.
It's a pity that most people have forgotten about him&his movies and that nobody in the West seems to know him. I mean "Die Söhne der großen Bärin" (The Sons of the Great Mother Bear) has like 55 votes on IMDb (with a rating of 5.9 ) - that film has been hugely successful and influential!
You know, "Der Untergang" (aka: Downfall) was hailed as one of the most successful German Films ever; well it sold ~4.5 million tickets in Germany  The Sons of the Great (Mother) Bear sold over 10 million tickets with several re-releases in the GDR alone, when it had had a population of 17 million! You just can't compare that! And I don't even want to know how many million Russians and Chinese have seen that film - I'm fairly sure that it must have been one of the best known of its time! (And no, the GDR was not like North Korea is/was, where people are forced to watch certain films. Sure, if you were in school at that time there might have been special screenings, but I know that the school I went to wasn't the only one, where everybody had to go and watch "Downfall" (some even had to go twice ) - so that's no different.)
I think they have done rather well in putting this set together, because they have combined the best with some of the worst of the 14 films produced, so you'll have to buy them if you want that slipcase. There are also 2 more boxes with 4DVDs each, so you could get all of the Films Gojko starred in.
Anyway, I'll give these DVDs to my Dad, because he introduced me to these films. We used to watch them together (the only films I ever bought/watched on VHS - we didn't have a TV/VCR so we watched it at his office) and if I'll go visit him, we could do that again, which would be nice. I had read Die Söhne der Großen Bärin, which is hugely popular in Germany, and several of the other books that were adapted for the big screen previously. I still own quite a few of those ;) You might have missed it on the front page, but I have a book about these "DEFA-Indian films", how we call them, (I think "Red Westerns" is the proper English term) - I bought it for the nice still shots. Here are some pictures:
