Apollo 13 (DTS) VS Apollo 13 (Anniversary Edition)

Postby whistlernl » Tue Mar 15, 2005 2:14 pm

I saw that you guys at dvdtherapy have reviewed the Apollo 13 AE.

I've got the DTS R1 version with the full bitrate track (as it seems).

My question is as follows: Is the new Apolle 13 AE version better in terms of video/audio(dts) quality then the Apollo 13  DTS version?

And is the DTS track of the AE version for the main movie or only for the imax version?

Thanks guys,

I've also got the region 1 DTS full bitrate version. It would take some beating - it's an excellent track. :|

Well this is an eye opener. I've got this AE R1 on order, so i hope it also has a FB track, because i can only find the dts edition on Amazon for £19   :doubt:
Unless there are cheaper sources, in which case i'll cancel my pre-order and get this instead. I could care less for 'extras'

I can't imagine the full bitrate adds all that much to be honest and with the R2 (or R1) Anniversary edition you get the extras as well.  Saying that, I'm keeping my R1 full bitrate!   :D

I've just managed to get the original dts version (sans extra's) for £6 on ebay :D
Usually i'm a bit dubious about buying of ebay, after what happened to my brother, but i'll let you know weather it's legit or dodgy (hopfully legit)

Unfortunately the AE edition is Half Bitrate only ....
I've watch the imax version in 1:66 format and I must say that I've enjoyed it! It was better than the original one ...

The UK version doesn't have the I-max version and has the dts on the theatrical cut, if you want to get this version

Ok, stupid question coming . . .

What is the difference with the IMAX version?
Will this play perfectly well on my widescreen LCD in it's 1:66 format?
If so, is it anamorphic?
Is it better and if so why?
I fancy having a go at this but if I really need an IMAX projector I'll give it a miss  :?

Discuss
