I'm just going to order the regular R1 3disc, hopefully it'll be a digipack.
Not really into all those statues.

Sorry Popeye, Australia here but no sign of that Extended Edition. I have been running down stores, and the strangest thing is the reaction at every place: "What? A new King Kong release? You sure? Let me check..."

Followed by a long search, to return with the deadpan reply: "Sorry we don't carry that title, didn't think anybody would be after it." Have had this happen to me in 11 stores so far! The only place that actually got it in was the EzyDVD I work at, but we only got 6 copies and they were gone on the first day (my day off of course) so I have no idea what it looks like or if it is indeed a digipack.
We have more on the way, but I reckon they won't get there till next Tuesday at best.

I just can't believe no stores are stocking this item or even are aware it is released. Guess somebody over at Universal Australia's marketing department better start clearing out their desk lol.

That's unbelievable :o

You would have thought that Universal would have wanted to milk every last drop out of this franchise!

Oh well never mind, there's not too long to go now before it hits the shops everywhere else. Thanks for the update ;)

I think I'm going for the R2UK from CD-WOW. I have a nice voucher from a Danish promotion, which will knock the price down to less than £9 :D

It's a DVD where its extras/special features/Making Of featurette are better and more interesting than the movie itself.
I'm just buying it for the extras and the statues, I suppose.

UPDATE: The R4 Australia comes in a nice digipack! Just received our stock and it has a great cover (matte and glossy, embossed) with a two-fold digipack inside (discs 1 and 2 together on the left side, disc 3 on the right side).

Since I don't have a digicam with me right now, I'll describe the artwork. Front of digipack has Kong fighting the T-Rexes, holding Ann in his grip. Back is Kong sitting on Empire State Building with Ann on his hand, sunset in the background, staring at each other. Inside has Kong and the T-Rex running at each other with Ann in between.

Sounds nice - for region 4. But once again they persist in half measures to cut costs and will probably charge a similar amount to the R1/R2 set. Why oh why do they make it a two-fold digipak. Discs 1 and 2 are stacked on top of each other? If you're going to go to the effort of making it digipak, go all the way.

Anyway, I will likely not be getting the R4 due to our hideous ratings logos. Still looks like the R1 gift set is the way to go, if the R2 turns out to be keepcases. This is a title I will be waiting to go on sale, at any rate.

Yeah, that big rating on the front is an eyesore. I can't be bothered about the Gift Set; think the statue is the worst Weta has done for Kong. I am happy to stick with the awesome one they did for the Japanese Production Diaries (Kong bursting through the gates on Skull Island).

With regards to the R4: disc 1 and 2 are not completely stacked on each other, it is half and half. Will try to get some pics up later tonight.

Here's some pics, guys. Sorry about the not-so-great quality, but was in a hurry :) Can also confirm that this baby is dual-coded R2/4 - so the UK should be identical.

Thanks for the pix mate, you have come through once again. Have to admit, looks nice for region four, but having seen the other digi pix elsewhere...going to have to pass on region four again. It seems like they've gone to some effort to make a decent set for this part of the world, but haven't quite gotten all the way there. Would love to buy local and support the retailers here but i still think I will go with R1, based on the info at hand.

Even if I wasn't going for the gift set, and just the digipak itself, I think R1 will be better. Based on DVDactive's information it seems that R2 is getting 3 x keepcases, which is strange. Will just wait till all are released and go from there. I'm sure this will be on sale post christmas and that will be the time to strike!
