Oshii’s SKY CRAWLERS

Postby Trilogy » Sun Apr 27, 2008 1:31 pm

Bizarrely it’s only on YouTube and not the film’s official site - which means it’s a pretty crappy video format particularly for such a strongly visual director - but the full theatrical trailer for Ghost in the Shell director Mamoru Oshii’s new feature Sky Crawlers has now arrived.  I’ve talked to a few people who have seen the first fifteen minutes of this at a private Tokyo exhibition recently and all of them say it is absolutely stunning work, one going so far to say that the flight sequences out-do the flight work in the films of Hayao Miyazaki, which is high praise indeed.  You’ll find the trailer below the break.

Those plane scenes do indeed look amazing.

Just watched the trailer on the official website, and all I can say is "WOW!".  Some of the aerial scenes remind me of "Last Exile", another wonderful anime.

Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions Group has picked up distribution rights on animated film “The Sky Crawlers” for the U.S., Canada, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand.

Deal was made on the eve of the film’s North American premiere at the Toronto fest.

Directed by Mamoru Oshii ("Ghost in the Shell"), story is set in an alternate present in which perennial adolescents called Kildren fight in an endless war at a sporting event that the public follows in the media. Chihiro Ito adapted the screenplay from Mori Hiroshi’s bestselling Japanese novel. VarietyAsiaOnline

It would be much cooler if they released an 'affordable' LE (besides the Japanese one)

You really should. It's not superb but the shots of the dogfights are wonderful!
